Ingredients needed to make this quick and easy pineapple orange smoothie:
- 1 cup of ice cubes
- 1 cup fresh frozen pineapple – You can use fresh pineapple and freeze it ahead of time or buy already frozen pineapple. See the blog post below for more information about the pineapple.
- ⅓ cup vegan vanilla yogurt – The flavor of your yogurt will directly affect the flavor of your smoothie. Some yogurts are tangier than others so plan according to your tastes. I use sweetened vanilla coconut yogurt by So Delicious. You could also substitute the creamy topping found at the top of a can of coconut milk if you don’t want to use yogurt. Be aware though that coconut milk will contain more fat than (most) vegan yogurts will. If you are not vegan then use any yogurt you enjoy.
- 1 cup orange juice – Squeeze some fresh oranges or pour from a carton/bottle of juice. Like the yogurt though, remember that the flavor of the juice will affect the flavor of the smoothie.
- optional agave or maple syrup for added sweetness – Give it a little taste to make sure it is sweet enough to enjoy. I often add a little squirt of agave or maple syrup if it isn’t sweet enough for me.
- You will also need a high-speed blender or food processor to blend the smoothie.

About the (frozen) fresh pineapple
I will just say to please use fresh pineapple for this smoothie recipe. Sure, you can use canned pineapple – but since pineapple is kinda the main ingredient used, canned pineapple will give your smoothie a…well…canned taste! And nobody wants that!
You can buy a bag of frozen pineapple chunks from the freezer section in your grocery store. Or you can buy a container of cut fresh pineapple chunks in the produced department and freeze them.
You can also cut your own pineapple and then freeze the chunks. I found cutting a fresh pineapple pretty intimidating till I read this useful post on cutting a fresh pineapple by Good Life Eats.

Remember that if you choose to freeze fresh pineapple chunks, that this will take extra time that is not included in the total time in the recipe card below. This is why I always have a bag in the freezer ready to go when I am!
How to make this delicious smoothie recipe with pineapple, orange, and yogurt
The exact ingredients with measurements can be found in the recipe card below along with more concise abbreviated instructions. Read on for more details, tips, and tricks so that you will feel confident making this recipe.
Step one: Blend the frozen ingredients
Add the ice and frozen pineapple along with the yogurt to the blender or food processor. Blend for a few minutes, only unil the ice is well chopped and the smoothie is nice and smooth.

Step 2: Add the orange juice
Wait until after the ice has been thoroughly blended with the other ingredients before adding the orange juice. At this point, you should just gently stir it in. If you add it all together and blend in the first step, then you run the risk of your smoothie getting too melty and liquidy too soon.
Final (optional step: Taste and sweeten
I like my smoothies a little sweeter. I’m not trying to make a healthy drink but a tasty snack! Add a little agave, maple syrup, or other liquid sweetened of choice. You could even add a no/low-calorie sweetener if that is your preference.
Now sit back, put on a little music, and enjoy your tasty smoothie! This pineapple orange smoothie is best served immediately. This smoothie recipe is a generous two cups you could even split it into two smaller portions and share it with a friend.
