Have you ever thought to make your own spice blends? I recently tried some experimenting and came up with this pumpkin pie spice blend that tastes just like store-bought – or even better!

Why make your own pumpkin pie spice?

Well, it’s a nice recipe to have on hand – just in case you can’t find this seasonal spice blend at the store when you need it. Does anyone remember the canned pumpkin puree shortage of 2020? It can happen at any time with any grocery store item for odd reasons (though 2020 was certainly an odd reason indeed).

But most importantly, when you make your own you can source super fresh spices to use for ingredients for your super fresh pumpkin pie spice! Buy everything new and open just before mixing together. Then store your homemade pumpkin pie spice in a jar, tightly covered in a darkened place away from the sun for the freshest taste.

Plus, it makes a great gift!

That’s right! Make up a few jars of pumpkin pie spice. This recipe makes about 1/3 a cup so you can gift in the tiny little jelly jars or find some cute spice jars on Amazon. Tie with a raffia ribbon and attach some recipes using pumpkin pie spice and you’ve got a cute seasonal gift that will be well appreciated!

I use your pumpkin pie spice in several of my recipes at the bakery where I work. It makes it so much easier to measure out one time vs getting out several containers to measure out each spice.
