From the cookbook “Simply Delicious Vegan” by Caitlin Shoemaker, these crisp and flavorful air-fried Brussels sprouts with a smoky maple glaze are easy to make and taste delicious too!

I love Brussels sprouts and had just finished a slightly complicated recipe, my Creamy Instant Pot Brussels Sprouts, which while it was pretty fabulous, used lots of ingredients. I was looking for a less complicated, yet equally fabulous recipe.

Cooking food in the air fryer is the perfect way to save on oven space when you are planning a dinner event. You can cook one course in the oven and another in the air fryer. When I want something a little sweet I’ll make air fryer apple slices, all covered in cinnamon and sugar. Corn on the cob and air fryer spinach are other savory veggie side dishes made easy in the air fryer.

The cookbook: Simply Delicious Vegan

I didn’t need to look much further because I found a Brussels sprouts recipe to try when I was given the exciting new cookbook Simply Delicious Vegan, by Caitlin Shoemaker in exchange for my honest review.

This cookbook has 100 healthy plant-based recipes – and seriously they all look fabulous! And the best part is that honestly, they aren’t complicated either. Anyone could pick up this cookbook, turn to any page, and get started!

Beautiful full-color pages accompany every recipe. Can I tempt you with vegan pad thai? How about a luscious broccoli cheddar soup? Or blueberry cardamom cheesecake?!?

What I’m most impressed with is that this is not simply a cookbook. The author has a whole introduction section about plant-based cooking including pantry essentials, kitchen gadgets, and how to cook without oil.

Simply Delicious Vegan would make a great gift for anyone eating vegan or wanting to give plant-based eating a try.

Air fryer Brussels sprouts

The author Caitlyn Shoemaker gave me permission to make a recipe and share it with my readers. I was so happy to find her Maple-Glazed Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer recipe.

This was just what I was looking for! Simple, with only a few ingredients, and delicious too!

Ingredients needed to make air fryer Brussels sprouts:

To make this recipe you will need:

  • Brussels sprouts – look for uniform size medium sprouts
  • tamari
  • real maple syrup – no fake stuff please
  • smoked paprika
  • pink Himalayan sea salt
  • You will also need an air fryer. There are so many different ones on the market. This Ninja Foodie is mine!

How to make air fryer Brussels sprouts

Prepping the Brussels sprouts

Start by washing, trimming, and cutting the Brussels sprouts in half. You will want to choose medium-sized sprouts and make sure they are as uniform in size as possible.

Then mix the wet ingredients with the sea salt and smoked paprika.

Bowl with ingredients mixed to coat Brussels sprouts with cut sprouts in the background.

Evenly mix to that your sprouts will be evenly coated. And DON’T SUB sweet paprika for smoked paprika. The smoked paprika really does lend a subtle flavor that you won’t want to miss!

Next, evenly coat the sprouts, making sure that all parts are covered. I especially wanted to make sure the maple glazed got onto the cut sides.

Tossing the cut Brussels sprouts in the ingredients before air-frying.

The directions call for lining the basket of your air fryer with parchment paper. You absolutely must do this! You can also use a non-stick foil as well. The glaze is wet and will drip and make a mess if your basket is not lined.

Air frying the Brussels sprouts

Then, following your manufacturer’s direction, air fry the Brussels sprouts at 400° for 17-20 minutes.

The directions in the cookbook say to remove the basket and shake the sprouts every 5 minutes. This will ensure even cooking.

If your air fryer is like mine and you can place the sprouts in a single layer, that step is not as important.

I still did take them out when they were half-way done and flip them since they were on wet parchment paper.

Take out and serve immediately. This recipe serves 2-4 people. In my family it was closer to two.
