This healthy BBQ sauce made from scratch is plant-based. It uses medjool dates and real maple syrup for sweeteners.  Make this healthy homemade BBQ sauce today in your high speed blender and stovetop.

  • 12 Medjool dates, pitted about 1 1/2 cups loosely packed
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce canned
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce vegan
  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce low sodium
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup real
  • 3/4 teaspoon smoked paprika more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  • Take the pits out and soak the Medjool dates for about 30 minutes. (Dry or old dates will need longer to soak - up to 3 hours.) The dates will be very soft when done soaking.
  • Discard soaking water from the dates.
  • Add the dates and all other ingredients to a high-speed blender.
  • Blend on high for about 3 minutes or until all of the dates have been pulverized and well blended.
  • Pour sauce into a medium sized saucepan. 
  • Stirring often, cook on low heat for about 15 minutes or until thickened.
  • If you don't plan on using right away, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days.
